Here is a list of words we learned in Ancient Egypt
Cataract- A decent of water over a steep surface: a waterfall, especially one of considerable size.
Linen- Cloth woven from flax.
Papyrus- Made from the pithy stem of a water plant, used in sheets throughout the Ancient Egypt world for writing or painting.
Dynasty- A line of hereditary rulers of a country.
Step pyramid- An architectural structure that uses flat platforms, or steps, receding from the ground up, to achieve a geometric pyramid.
Ramses II- The third pharaoh of the Nineteenth dynasty of Egypt. He is regarded as the greatest, most celebrated, and most powerful pharaoh of the Egyptian Empire. It was only owing to his own personal courage and calm in battle that he was able to turn the tide against the Hittite King Muwatalli II.
Delta- A nearly flat plain of deposit between diverging branches of the mouth of a river.
Red land- The barren dessert that meant danger to the Egyptians. It was also a bad place for growing crops.
Black land- The fertile land on the banks of the Nile. This was the only land in Ancient Egypt that could be farmed because a layer of rich, black silt was deposited after the Nile flooded.
Afterlife- A life held to follow death.
Succession- A number of persons or things following one another in order or sequence.
Khufu- Fourth Dynasty Ancient Egyptian pharaoh, who ruled in the first half of the Old Kingdom period. Contributed to the construction of the great Pyramid of Giza.
Silt- Fertile soil that comes in the form of sediment.
Scribe- A person who copies out documents.
Embalm- To prevent decay of a corpse by treating it with preservatives.
Pharaoh- A ruler in Ancient Egypt.
Hatshepsut- Fifth pharaoh of the Eighteenth dynasty of Egypt. She was also the first female pharaoh.
Hieroglyph- Small symbols used in writing by the Ancient Egyptians.
Mummy- A body embalmed after death.
Pyramid- A monumental structure with a square or triangular base and sloping sides that meet in a point at the top, one built of stone as a royal tomb.
Obelisk- A stone pillar, typically having a square or rectangular cross section and a pyramidal top, set up as a monument or landmark.
