Hieroglyphics- The Egyptians alphabet, but instead of letters they used pictographs to write. The pictographs closely resembled what the meaning was. There were over 800 hieroglyphs in the old kingdom and about 800 now.
Medical technology- The Egyptians know how to stich up wounds and set broken bones. They learned this from embalming mummies. Since there was no money, people repaid the doctors with goods. Some of the doctors were so great, they were considered gods
Other inventions created by the ancient Egyptians-
Paper: made from the papyrus plant. The papyrus’s tough, fibrous interior proved ideal for making durable sheets of writing material, long with sails, sandals, and baskets
Calendar- the Egyptians had no way of knowing when the annual flooding of the Nile would begin, so without the knowledge that they calendar provides, their entire agriculture system would be at risk so they decided to use one based on the movements of the sun.
Daily life- Egyptians marry when they are young, and although there are some divorces, they aren't common. Royalty and nobles often have more than one wife, and husbands adore their wives. Children are considered to be a blessing from the gods. Also, women have many of the same rights as men; they were allowed to own property, testify in court, and more. But woman also have an important role at home. They have to care for the children and make the meals. In the social pyramid of ancient Egypt the pharaoh and those associated with divinity were at the top, and servants and slaves made up the bottom. The Egyptians also elevated some human beings to gods. Pharaohs were believed to be gods in human form. Only because their pharaohs were believed to be gods, they entrusted them with ruling Egypt. Ninety five percent of Egypt’s population was farmers because of the large amount of farm land they had gained from conquering cities. Other jobs were the pharaoh, government officials (nobles, priests), soldiers, scribes, merchants, artisans, farmers, and slaves or servants.

papyrus paper found from this link. Papyrus was important because without it there would be nowhere to write and no sails, sandals, baskets, and carpets.
Egyptian plow found from this link
the plow helped the Egyptians harvest and plant their fields. without them the process of farming would've been slower and they might have not planted all the crops by flood season. |
diagram of Egyptian calendar found from this link. the calendar was important because without out it, there would be no way for the Egyptians to know when flooding season was. if they didn't know when flooding season was, their millions of crops could've been ruined and they wouldn't have any food or paper from that harvest.

What does it mean to be a scribe, what materials did they use, was it difficult, who could be a scribe
March 3, 2057
Not everyone in ancient Egypt was allowed to write. Only scribes were appointed to learn hieroglyphics and ancient writing techniques. Scribes, keep track of records and write hieroglyphics on tomb walls. Most scribes were boys and they earn a lot of money, so they might be eligible suitors. Relating to social class, they were in the upper class close to the pharaoh. Scribes used reed brushes and crushed brightly colored minerals to write on papyrus paper. Being a scribe takes 5 years of schooling. This schooling was very difficult because the hieroglyphic scripts were complicated and had 800 symbols. Most often the children of scribes became scribes. Very rarely did someone get their son into the school for scribes.
What advancements did the Egyptians make in medical technology
March 4, 2057
The Ancient Egyptians had a wide variety of medicines and cures. Some of their medicines were quite strange. For example, they used honey and human brains to cure eye infections. They also used a whole cooked mouse to help cure coughs. Many of their medicines were accompanied by spells to ward off the evil spirits making the person sick. They also discovered how to stich wounds back up with a needle and thread and place a splint for broken bones, things we still do today. We’ve noticed that the Egyptians use the same kind of methods to heal wounds and we have way much more technology than them. They were definitely an advanced society.
How was the Egyptian society organized
March 5, 2057
Egypt’s social structure began to emerge in the Old Dynasty. The social structure went from slaves/ servants to pharaohs. The order of the social class from least important from most important is slaves/servants, farmers, artisans, merchants, scribes, soldiers, government officials, and pharaoh. This was a very organized way of creating the social structure because it put the people with the most important jobs in higher power so they could carry out their work.
What job would I want in ancient Egypt
March 6, 2057
If I could be anyone in Egypt except pharaoh I would choose to be a scribe. Even though it isn’t the second highest job in the social class, it is still a very privileged job because only a handful of Egypt’s population gets to be a scribe. Also I would get to learn the complex writing techniques of hieroglyphics. With the knowledge of hieroglyphics, I would also get to write documents for the pharaoh. It would be so cool to assist the pharaoh. The pros of being a scribe is that you receive a large amount of money and they are very high up in the social class. The cons of being a scribe are that you have many duties and responsibilities and you have to go to five years of scribe schools. You also have to learn the complex language of hieroglyphics that consists of 800 characters.
